Let the Adventure Begin!

Emilia, Brian and I planned a trip to Kiruna, a place that was supposed to be frozen and have the ability to see the northern lights, in the Laplands of Sweden.

Which is quite a distance from down here in Jönköping!
  • about 1.5Km!
  • that's about 960 miles!
  • it took us about 21 hours!
  • On trains!
We started our trip on Wednesday, February 12th at 13:04 at the Jönköping Central Station.  Our first train was very short and was only to connect to the trains that go to Stockholm.  From Nässjö [when you say this correctly, I always think it sounds like nightquil] to Stockholm where we got on a sleeper train and in Boden changed back to a normal train (this last one was super full).
Pictures!

Ready to go!

Prepare the cameras!

Then we finally got on the train!
Here we go!

Out the window shots!

Then we got to the Nässjö station to get on the train to Stockholm.

Almost everyone was happy about getting on the train......

We ended up sitting next to a guy from England......
Charlie, this is why you do nice photos for me ;P
He was from there---ish

We talked about the oddities of the English language, like that of Stones (14 pounds), weird names in England and USA that might be hard to say, we created the pubble, which is a fraction of the stone, and I accidentally made Omaha a state, but was thinking Oklahoma--Give me a break!  I was feeling like doing the same as Emily in that last photo!

We finally got to Stockholm, where our new friend Charlie was greeted by the police (learned later it wasn't bad) and we wished him well on his way to Russia (he was learning Russian, languages were his job).  We explored the Stockholm station, I was slightly confused when a poorer man told me "we hate the United States, they beat the Germans in WWII", I tried telling him their were others too...but claimed it was all the USA, but the guy with him (looked like he was caring for him) told me to not pay attention....it was very odd.....very very odd.  On a brighter note!  We were going to our night train now!

Night Train!

Emily, Brian, and our new Swedish friend Joel.

Joel and Sophia, both Swedish in our same train compartment.
We had these two Swedish friends (one other too, but didn't talk to us, what a Swede), Joel who was off to see his brother in University, and Sophia [not sure on this spelling] but she was off to go to an interview for a job [good luck!].

So we got to meet a lot of people, learn some new things, and then go to sleep, tomorrow was going to be a long day!

Blog ya later!
